All fifty states now have a little slice of New Jersey in them. Nationwide sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s Subs opened its first Alaska location in Wasilla, and more are on the way throughout the summer.
Mike’s Way on the Parks Highway
Jersey Mike’s Subs, with more than 2,500 locations nationwide, serves fresh and grilled subs on bread baked in the store with the same recipe since 1956. Jersey Mike’s meats and cheeses are sliced on the spot and piled high with onions, lettuce, and tomatoes, all topped with “the juice,” a trademark blend of red wine vinegar and an olive oil.
The franchise at 1451 E. Parks Highway, near the shore of Wasilla Lake, is owned by Fred Rosenberg, whose Gourmet Ventures Inc. operates Red Robin restaurants as well.
“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to bring Jersey Mike’s Subs to Wasilla and the Mat-Su Valley,” says Rosenberg.
The line of new customers was out the door during lunch hour, wrapping around the building, yet more than thirty staff on duty kept the line moving steadily.
The grand opening celebration heading into Memorial Day weekend was also a fundraiser to support the local branch of Special Olympics Alaska.
“At Jersey Mike’s, our culture is to give back to the communities that we serve. We have partnered with Special Olympics Alaska, Mat-Su Community to raise funds for this very worthy organization,” Rosenberg says. “Our goal is to make a positive difference in the communities and neighborhoods that we serve. It is our responsibility as a brand to give for the sole purpose of giving and not to receive.”

The restaurant’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Jersey Mike’s is still hiring for the Wasilla shop and for new locations.
“We will also be opening very shortly in South Anchorage and Eagle River and will be partnering with other charitable organizations,” Rosenberg says. A South Anchorage location is scheduled to open at the end of July,, and an Eagle River location is coming in late summer.
“We are thrilled to bring ‘A Sub Above’ to Alaska and open the 50th state for Jersey Mike’s,” Rosenberg says.
