The Alaska Marine Science Symposium, Alaska’s premier marine research conference, has been bringing together scientists, educators, resource managers, students, and interested public for more than thirty years to discuss the latest marine research being conducted in Alaska waters. More than 700 people attend this four-day conference held each January. Plenary sessions will be held at the Hotel Captain Cook; poster sessions will be held at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center.
Each day of the conference highlights important Alaska marine ecosystems: Gulf of Alaska (Tuesday), Arctic (Wednesday), and the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (Thursday). Research topics to be discussed range from ocean physics and local traditional knowledge to marine mammals, seabirds, fish, and invertebrates. Current and pre-service teachers may earn one or two 500-level continuing education credits through participation in this event.
